Sub-problem 2d: How Can We Improve the Level of Service at the Ramp Junction at the Northbound On-Ramp to I-87?

The table below shows the effect of increasing the acceleration lane from 500 (existing condition) to either 1,000 feet or 1,500 feet. Again, as with the addition of a lane to the ramp, the effect is not significant. In fact, as we saw before, the demand still exceeds the capacity of the merge influence area; and we cannot depend on the results from the HCM model for this analysis.

Acceleration lane (feet) AM Peak Hour (7 am - 8 am) PM Peak Hour (4 pm - 5 pm)
Density LOS Speed Density LOS Speed
500 13.7 B 51 42.4 F 42
1,000 10.7 B 52 39.9 F 41
1,500 7.7 A 52 37.3 F 41
